It had been five days since the incident in the forest. Jessica could still only remember a few things from before she fell and hit her head. And those things she still hadn’t talked to anyone about. It was what happened when she woke up that had caused rumors to spread like wildfire throughout the school. Now five days later she had managed to extinguish all of them. But she was still ‘injured’ from the happenings, which she was enjoying the benefits of.
Sighing a little as the bell rand she threw her bag over her shoulder and moved out of the classroom. In the hallway people were rushing to their next class but they all avoided her and stepped out of her path. This brought a smirk to her face. Behind her a small group of four girls chatted about the latest rumors. Jessica listened half-heartedly as she led the group to the gym for P.E. The coach already knew she was out for the next two weeks and was sending her to the library for a ‘study hall’ instead. Jessica would have loved to go straight there but the coach required her to check in with him and the librarian to insure she wasn’t skipping. Once the coach checked her in Jessica spun around and left the gym.
The halls were empty now as she walked to the library. Pushing open the door she checked in at the counter with the librarian and then went back into the farthest part of the library. One thing she did like about coming here was that the librarian could care less about her and never checked on her as long as she was quiet. It helped that there were never any classes that came into the library during this time either. It gave Jessica the time she was looking for to think alone. Even at home she was never alone, always having a parent or sibling calling on her every twenty minutes. Dropping into a chair she put her bag on the table and leaned back, letting her thoughts drift as her eyes closed.
The first image that came to her mind was David. Dammit. She thought. Why was he stuck in her head? Ever since that day in the forest with the wolves he was around. Sighing a little she rubbed her temples softly. The bump on her head was gone but she was still getting killer headaches and had even felt lightheaded a few times now. What sucked the most for her was that she was not allowed to ride. This was killing her since she had ridden every day since she learned how at the age of six. Even worse than that though, was that David was around A LOT at her house. She didn’t like it. Well she did, she enjoyed watching him but she would never admit that to anyone. But it made a lot of tension in the house. Especially since he was working her horse, and Midnight had taken to him quickly. It bothered her.
Sighing softly and tried to move her thoughts off David. She began thinking about her homework and that only made her head hurt more. Her thoughts shifted to her life after she graduated. She wasn’t going to a four year college right away like a few of the popular group. She had made the choice on her own to go to community college. She smiled a little thinking about it. Her parents were going to help her get an apartment near the college so she wouldn’t have to live at home. Home. That thought brought David back into her head. Fuck! She cursed in her mind as her thoughts went back to the day she awoke in the hospital. Not thinking about it her hand came up and touched her lips as she remembered the kiss he had stolen from her. She was a friend of his, or as close to a friend as she got. The kiss had surprised her; it had surprised her that she had enjoyed it too. Jessica sighed again and stayed leaned back with her eyes closed as she thought more.
