Bree was sitting in the Cullen home, she didn't feel like a part of it yet really, they were all so grown up compared to her and the human at was always around, the one they called Bella, how did they do it. Bree had some good control but sometimes she just had to get away from the scent of human blood she didn't have all of the control that she needed yet. Bree sighed slightly sitting on the couch in what could technically be called her bedroom. Alice and the other Cullens had gone about putting it together for her. She had a wall that was just ceiling to floor of books, lots and lots of books in all different genres and everything like that. She hadn't asked for it but she had told them she liked to read and they filled her room with them and there were obviously other things like the couch she had currently taken up residence on. She didn't leave her room very much aside from needing to feed and she always had to go with someone so that she wouldn't lose it if she came across some hiker.
Bree was still getting used to the way the Cullens worked like a family, Bree didn't get it all she knew of being a vampire was in that thing with the Army. Now here she was in a coven of them who weren't preparing for an army, they fed off of animal blood. Bree thought it was a good thing that she was starting to remember their names and things. Like Alice was the little one who was shorter than she was and could see the future. Alice was with Jasper who controlled moods and was helping her learn control. Emmett was the big one who was with the pretty blonde one who was named Rosalie. Carlisle was the one that fascinated her though he worked in a hospital how did he do it how could he stand being around human blood all the time like that. Carlisle was with Esme who was the one who acted like the mom Bree never had or never remembered having. And then there was Edward who could read her thoughts and he was with the human Bella who smelled really good.
Bree's daydreaming was just her trying to remember everything she had a book in her hands, one of the ones that Alice had gottne her a double of because her copy was getting worn out but she hadn't picked up Alice's copy yet. She'd kept reading the one that she had the one with the tattered pages and a little water damage which Bree hated but it was too late to do anything about now. She had gotten the book with Diego on their little excavation to get away from Kevin and whatever his face was that she called Spiderman. Bree sighed when her thoughts went to Diego where was he did he make it through the fight, what about Fred. Well Fred left but Bree couldn't help but wonder if that person Jane had found him and hurt him. Bree would be crying right now if she could but she couldn't cry. She just sat perfectly still wishing the tears would come and that she would cry but she couldn't get the tears to come she just sat there looking at the world blankly around her. Bree had the book in front of her though.
She had a closet full of new clothes that had barely been touched yet, Bree was happy in her t-shirt and then the shirt and jacket Diego gave her. She knew Alice was trying to get her to change and she did change her t-shirt and jeans but the jacket and other shirt that Diego had given her that were too big on her tiny fifteen year old frame but she was stuck that way forever and she wouldn't let Alice wash them or throw them out because it would take Diego's scent off of them. Not that she had been telling anyone that at all she just clung to it with a force that no one could get her away from her and being still a young vampire Bree was still a tricky little thing to get a hold of. She was listening to the Cullens on everything with what she was allowed to eat and all of that. Bree just sat there wondering if Diego knew that they could live off of animal blood and that was what made the Cullen's eyes yellow it wasn't age that did it it was diet. Or that there were people called the volturi who would do things if he did anything wrong. Bree sighed again why did all of her thoughts lead her to Diego. She listened hearing foot falls through out the house, she knew it was one of her vampires siblings because they were too faint for the human ear to hear.
Bree knew that she was more of a risk than and assest to the Cullens she had no ability and she hadn't had a clue what was going on she had just wanted to eat something. Hunger was a powerful need in both humans and vampires although in vampires it was more of a risk because it meant that someone would probably get hurt. Bree wished she'd known about the animal blood before then maybe all those people in Seattle or at least some of them would still be alive. Bree wondered if Freaky Fred knew about the animal blood thing. It wasn't like vampires would get close to him though he was kind of a freak with the whole replent thing but Bree liked him even if he made her feel nauseous when she was around him.
Bree had chosen to isolate herself she chose to stay away from the others for the time being. She didn't know if they liked her or not she was just shy and quiet and too insecure to ask. She was currently curled up around a pillow with her book though. The binding on the cover of it was getting worn from the number of times she had read it. The pages were thin where her fingers had touched it. they would be oily feeling to if she had oils in her skin. The pages were a little water damaged from the battle that she didn't fight in anyway. Bree started to bite on her finger nail nervously not that it mattered.

I tried to kill the pain but only brought more,
I lay dying and I'm pouring crimson regret and betrayal. No one knew why the Volturi had decided that this one newborn was allowed to live, why the Volturi gave her this second chance. A chance that they gave no others, apart from those that served them a purpose. So what role did this newborn have to play? Jasper didn't stop to think that the Volturi could be nice, it was only in his nature to consider why people chose what actions they did and what their purpose would it serve them. That was all what his life had been in Maria's army. Trying to understand his opponents moves and out smart them.
But now the stakes were higher. At first it had only been his life at stake, Maria had been his leader and he would die out of loyalty to her back then. Lucy and Nettie had been killed for rebelling. But the military ties were easily broken, Maria should of seen his leaving coming. Maybe she had been suspecting that ever since Peter and Charlotte left for that life that was just slightly easier for Jasper. But killing humans always brought the same depression, the same memories of his last night as a human. And now he had something which was worth fighting for.
Alice. She had given him a new life, a life that meant he no longer had to live through the deaths of his victims, and even more, she ahd given him herself. Jasper loved the tiny vampire more than he would let anyone know. He had been brought up to not show public affection, and so he never displayed his love for Alice where eyes watched. But they had something deeper, a bond that didn't need physical acts or words. How could they not share a bond after all Alice had done for him. And after all that she had given him, the least Jasper could do was to make sure that his mate was safe from any danger.
That danger included the Volturi and the newborn, Bree. Alice seemed to get along fine with the newborn, as if she were another human being, not a vampire infected with a crazed thirst that never stopped burning at her throat, a thirst that only human blood could saitisfy. Jasper remembered his first year as a newborn. That srength and the insanity of the thirst. It was a terrible life, the second worst stage of a vampire life. The first being the transformation. Of course, Jasper had no idea why this girl had been chosen by Victoria for her army, but it made no sense.
When Maria was choicing her army she had only went for men, older, experienced, soldiers. She had created a supior army. But then again, Maria wasn't a first timer, she knew plenty about vampire armies, how to lead and create them. Jasper considered if Maria was still out there. If his old creator was still out in the world, he was certain she would be out causing chaos, trying to claim all of the South. She had no vendetta, which was all that remained down south. The battle scared vampire hoped never to see his cretor again, never to hear her voice.
Then, Jasper felt a shift, someone's emotions had wiggled there way into him. Jasper paused in his stratigical thinking to connsider these emotions and who they might be from. It was that newborn again. Whenever she looked at that book her emotions would well up like that and wiggle their way into Jasper. He wondered what set her off like this. The only cause Jasper could think off was if she had lost her mate. But she was a newborn, they didn't have mates. She was too young.
Sighing, Jasper stood up and walked towards the newborn and the room she was in. He looked at her for a second. She was a newborn in so many ways. In some ways, Jasper almost envied her. Although she did have a few scars, they were nothing compared to the moon shaped bite marks that covered his body. And then their was the bloodlust, she had had so little time with human blood, compared to his time which was close to a century. The newborn didn't know much of his past, apart from the obvious, Jasper didn't speak about it like she didn't speak about hers.
Another thing Jasper didn't do with the newborn was socialize and bother to use her name. She was a liability at the moment, and a problem. He had to make sure she didn't drink human blood or lashed out. He was the only one who had experience with newborns. Slowly and gentle, Jasper calmed the atmosphere around him, before deciding to talk to the newborn. If things weren't calm she might attack. Clearing his throat, Jasper looked at the newborn's eyes to see if she was thirsty, although her emotions clearly where not linked to the thirst.
"What does that book mean to you?" he asked softly, keeping the curiosity out of his voice. "It isn't the book itself, you never read the new copy. What happened to get you so emotionally attached to that inanmite object?" Jasper was more willing to beleive that it was something like a love affair when she was human, but their were no human scents, although those could be over layed. Jasper just really didn't understand the newborn's attachment to the book.
"Someone precious gave you the book? A boyfriend, mother father?" he asked curiously. It couldn't of happened when she was a vampire, yet the emotions were so fresh as if it had happened then. But that couldn't work. Newborns couldn't feel love, it was beyond them, all they could feel was the thirst. That was the way it always was. Jasper was aware that he might be prying into her life and that it was wrong to do so.
"I'm just curious, I hope you don't mind my question. Its jsut that ever time you take out that book your emotions change." Jasper frowned. He sighed and then the frown lifted as he stood straight and military like close to the newborn. Making sure that he kept the emotions calm around him, so she wouldn't attack, Jasper waited for her to answer his question, or for her to fire any at him in turn to try and avoid the question. Jasper hoped that at some time this newborn would stop being so emotional every time. It wasn't very pleasant for him. It made him think of that time when Alice had been saving Edward with the help of Bella. When his mate was in Italy and in danger and he had no idea if she would return.

Bree looked up at Jasper when he came in, wanting to hiss, but knowing better. She just kept staring at him, trying to make him see that she was not up for telling. No luck. She heaved in a sigh and looked Jasper for once, in the eyes "Please.... just... go... just go ask Edward... I can't talk about him I can't talk about IT. I can't talk about my old life in Victoria's army!! It's hard, Jasper! You don't know HOW MUCH it hurts me to think about the ups and downs of being in that army. You HAVE to stop treating me like I'm about to turn around and sting you in the back. I never did and never will WANT to hurt anyone." she looked down by the end of her sentance.
"It's hard to talk about Deigo..." she muttered in a tone so low, even Jasper shouldn't of heard it, she went back to reading her fragile book, her frozen heart stinging with pain. Deigo. The possibly DEAD Deigo... she sighed and walked over to her bed-couch, falling into it's soft, yet hard surface, laying face down she said "please. Leave." trying to sound as polite as she could. She wanted to cry. To let the pain somewhat soak out through her pain inflicted tears. To sob like there was no tomorrow for the loss of her -I guess you can call him- boyfriend. Whether he was dead or, as much as she hated the thought of it, it was better then the first option, living his life with another vampire, hiding out, thinking SHE was dead or with someone else...
As she thought about the possibility's she held the book tightly to her chest. It was all she had left of him now. Just a small fragrence of Deigo.... That would never stay there for her whole life. The sent would fade, yet she would remain. A Cullen. A "veggie vamp." And Deigo-less.
(sorry for such a short and suckish reply. I'm new to this site and making such LONG POSTS. I'm sure my responses will get longer as I improve.)

Yo Ho, haul together, Hoist the colours high, Heave Ho, Theives and Beggars, Never Shall We Die! It was easy for Jasper to see how Bree would react, or how she should react. He had seen enouh of newborns, enough of armies, and he could sense her emotions as well. Listening to her words, Jasper frowned. Him.... his eyes hide the confusion of that. How could newborns love, that was impossible, it was only the older how felt like that. Newborns couldn't have love. It was against all that he knew.
"Don't I?" he asked as Bree said he didn't know how hard it was. He had lived in a war zone, her life was a breeze compared to what he had seen. She hadn't lived through a life where it was constant war, on many sides, she hadn't felt all her victims dying. But she didn't know about that, if she asked about his life, what would he say? No one ever asked, they were all too scared. But she could see the scars on him, and that spoke enough about his past. She was probably just not aware that he had once been a newborn, a soldier, fighting for his life. And he knew how much it hirt from her emotions. "There are no 'ups' to the life in an army, any army." he muttered, softly.
Sighing at her words, Jasper calmed Bree down, this reminded him so much of his old days in the army. When he had to 'babysit' all the newborns for Maria. "You've seen some newborns, how many of them would 'sting you in the back'?" Jasper asked, quoting her words. "How many do you think wanted to kill and become monsters in that army you were in?" his voice was soft, yet harsh. His questions weren't exactly easy to answer, or had a straight answer. It was something he had picked up from studying philosophy, but he had never applied that to looking after newborns.
Just then, Bree muttered something, and Jasper turned his head. He hadn't been able to make it out, it was so quite. "What did you say? There is no point in saying something if no one hears you." he told her. Her emotions definatly wasn't good, and his gold eyes watched as she moved. He remembered back on the feild, when he had first had to take charge of her. Things had worked better when he didn't order her and make it more like a game. You look, you loose...
Thinking about this, Jasper quickly applied this to his technique. Never before had he had to look after such a young newborn, young mentally, anyway. At her age in his day, she would probably be getting close to marrying. "What if we try and do this more... demorocratically. You ask me a question about me, or my family. I will answer honestly, and then I will ask you a question and you will answer truthfully. Then we can go back to me answering and then me asking." he suggested softly.
However, Jasper was uncomfortable with this, it wasn't normal to be like that with a newborn. But it had worked last time, so it might work out this time. Golden eyes looked at the book the newborn clutched, and he wondered what tied her to it. It was really like it was a gift from someone she loved, but newborns didn't love. That was impossible

"Jasper" Bree basically whispered "No. I couldn't.... I just... I don't like invading people's privacy... what I mean is... I just.... I don’t like hearing other peoples past… and no offense, but judging by the scars on your arms… and legs… okay, everywhere… your past was brutal. "she closed her eyes for a minute and then opened them, sitting up and looked at Jasper "what I just said, that you didn't hear, you wouldn't believe. I know your prejudice against newborns. I KNOW you believe they have no emotions. I saw that when Carlisle found me and you got ready to kill me, then started playing stupid games like "close your eyes, don't look, or die." so I KNOW you won't believe in what I'm about to say. But know that you've already got me talking. I've got nothing to lose.”
She grimace before she said his name “Diego. That's what I said. I said something about my love of this life. Okay? Now... please... stop… Using your gift thingy, it just makes me feel worse. Knowing that I'm so... calm and crap... when he's gone... and never coming back.... do you want to know why I am so... so attached to this book and jacket and shirt? They were the last things he touched... that he practically GAVE to Me." she shifted uncomfortably and looked down “So… yeah… Diego….”
She tried to manage a fake smile and failed miserably "There. Oh, I think I missed one of your questions... oh yeah, Diego was like me. But he had better will power, if it were him instead of me the day you guys brought me here, he wouldn't have dug his fingers into the ground, wanting Bella's blood. He would have practically sat there and said "what's with the pet human?." HE was the ups to being in to army. HE was the newborn vampire that wouldn’t sting you in the back. Okay? Are you happy? You've just made me more depressed." she looked back up and stared at Jasper with pleading eyes "Now, PLEASE, Jasper.... leave me alone?"

Yo Ho, haul together, Hoist the colours high, Heave Ho, Theives and Beggars, Never Shall We Die! Jasper watched Bree silently, as she spoke. Yes, he hard scars, yes there were many, yes his past was violent. It was written all over his body, there was no way to hide it, no way to ever hide his old ways from vampires. "Yes, it was brutal, but not uncommon. Or not uncommon how it started. The unusual thing is that they let me live after my first year, kept me." The 'they' that Jasper spoke about was Maria, Lucy and Nettie. They never let any other live longer than a year. Well, Maria had let Peter pass his year mark.
"Newborns are almost uncontrolable. Mostly they are uncontrolable. YOu didn't seem to find straight orders something to be obeyed..." Jasper muttered softly. Of course, she hadn't been trained properly. Victoria was a first timer and she kept away from them, giving another young vampire the job of keeping in charge. None of it had worked, and it had been easy to see that by how the newborns had fought. They hadn't been prepared, they hadn't been told anything, just enough to get them some knowledge and hatred towards the local coven to them.
After Bree gave her speach on Deigo, Jasper thought about it, his eyes cold as he looked through the possibilities. "My old friend, Peter, he feel in love with a newborn. But I never had much time to look at the newborn's emotions. She was scheduled to be killed, and Peter let his emotions show." Jasper frowned. He didn't understand it at the time, how Peter could fall in love, especially with a newborn. But he had presumed the only reason Charlotte had run was becuase she feared for her life, guessing what was happening after Peter shouted at her to run.
However, his own days as a newborn showed no love. Just blood, thirst, fighting and killing. That was all that had happened, but he had never met Alice when he was a newborn, so if he had met her while he was a newborn... but he didn't think it would change. When the bloodlust took over him, even now, it was impossible for anyone to bring him out of it, unless the removed the temptation. Alice looked after him and tried to stop him attacking and slipping before hand.
A strange look passed over Jasper's face as he considered Bree for the first time as a full vampire, or a human. Not a blood crazed monster on a timer, which, Jasper guessed, he probably was anyway. His timer was just hopefully slowing down. "I'm sorry." Jasper said softly as she said that he was making her worse. "That was not my aim. I... wanted to understand you. The best I have is to compare it to what I know of other newborns, what I've seen of them, what I've been through myself. Greiving won't make it better." Jasper's voice was soft, and he was used to using his power. He was still on edge, but he decided that acting nice and soft might make him get more information out of Bree and make the emotions feel better.

Bree gave Jasper a wary look"You arn't going to leave me alone, are you?" she groaned "what IS IT you want to know about me Jasper? WHY do YOU want to know about ME?" she didn't want to talk... the only times she talked about her life was with Diego. HE was the only one that ever WANTED to talk with her. What was it with Jasper? Why did he want to know about her? It didn't make any sense. He hated newborns. Why would he want to know about one? Did he just want to know about thier weaknesses? "That must be it" Bree thought "he just wants to know more about our weaknesses" she mentally chuckled at her explaination. Plain old Jasper.
She heaved another sigh and layed back against the wall, there was no piont in laying down again, not with nosy Jaasper snooping around and wanting to ask questions. Though, Bree didn't object -it felt good to let it out- she just didn't want to talk about it... it made her feel good telling someone, yet sad inside. It felt as if there was a mini Raoul ripping and tearing at her insides... and then like there was a mini Diego, making it better again.... Bree closed her eyes, waiting for Jasper's answer to her question. It was such a sin she couldn't sleep, not being able to slip away from reality. not even for just one lousy hour.
She felt the burn in her throat... how long had it been since she last hunted? A week? Two? She winced and tried to muffle it as a cough, not want Jasper to disturbe her about her being thirsty. She was happy sitting still as a rock, thank you very much.

Yo Ho, haul together, Hoist the colours high, Heave Ho, Theives and Beggars, Never Shall We Die! Silently, Jasper watched Bree as she spoke, it didn't seem like he was going to get anywhere with her. This newborn was going to be a problem, but he'd keep calm, just like he did when training all the other newborns. She couldn't be too different. "Isn't it good to understand others. When there is understanding, there is a lack of hostility and less of a chance of a missunderstanding." Jasper said softly, trying to be nice, although if this didn't work he'd just use all that he knew from his days training newborns to keep Bree in control.
As he watched Bree, carefully, making sure she wouldn't lash out, Jasper noticed her wince and muffle a cough. His mind went to replay thousands of times that he had felt the same way, and how annoying he found it will Edward and Alice keeping a look out, but this was a newborn. "Want to hunt?" Jasper asked, trying to sound friendly and not as if he had noticed her uncomfort. His own eyes were starting to turn black and although he wanted to try improve his control, and to reduce the amount of times he went hunting, it wouldn't matter if he went, to keep the newborn under control.
"You know, I know quite a bit about how you are feeling right now, and my past wasn't too different from yours. Apart from the obvious." the obvious being this 'Deigo' that Bree had had. Jasper's past had been more violent and longer than this newborn's. But now, after it, she would be faring off worse. He had found Alice after leaving, she had lost her loved on and then left. But it wasn't as if newborns could love, was it? Jasper shook the disturbing thoughts away from his head and sighed.

"Sometimes, I find, if someone knows you to well, they can more easily stab you in the back. Because they know all your weaknesses." Bree said, she knew an example of this. With Riley and Diego. Riley had most likely known all Diego's weaknesses which made it easier for him to... no. Bree wasn't going to think of that. Diego was alive. He HAD to be. He may not be with her, but he WAS alive. She went throught the possibilitys in her head again, she had two different things to choose to believe: 1. He waas dead. or 2. He made it out of the battle and went out on his own, possibly with someone else...
Bree's head snapped up when Jasper suggested hunting, she was planning just to sit there, as still as a rock and make herself believe, somehow, that Diego was alive. She knew it wouldn't work, but it was always worth a try. Bree noticed that she had most likely snapped her head up to fast... she hoped Jasper wouldn't misunderstand that as newborn sign language for "PLEASE!! SO THIRSTY!" So, to try and cover that, she shrugged and mumbled "kinda...."
"oh really?" Bree thought sarcasticly to herself. Jasper's past most likely wasn't near what Bree's was. It was probably more hectic, but not as dramatic and violent -not in the sense you would get scars, but the kind with watching everyone around you fight and rip each other apart when they are part of the same "coven" I guess you could call it, or watch them burn literally down in ashes. Jasper's was probably no where near anything like that. It couldn't have been. That would've been like Riley's past being joyful and happy, he would've been nice if it were like that.

Yo Ho, haul together, Hoist the colours high, Heave Ho, Theives and Beggars, Never Shall We Die! "True." Jasper replied, softly. "But those who don't know you well can still harm you, get into your life and make you trust them." he shrugged. He remembered Maria, she hadn't known him, yet she had placed herself in the center of his new life, so that everything revolved around her. It had taken too long for him to be able to see through her and escape. It was all too hard when the truth was unkown, but Bree probably hadn't been told much about what was happening, after all, she hadn't known about Victoria, her creator.
As Bree snapped her head up at his sugggestion of hunting, Jasper's eyes regarded her slowly, waiting to see what she would say. "Well, when you're... 'kinda' thirsty its best to hunt. The less thirst you have the better, the safer..." the safer it was for many. Safer for the victim, safer for your soul... and for Jasper, he was mentally and emotionally safer when he didn't kill. The battle scarred vampire knew how it felt like to be the one everyone was looking out for and he had to hide that he was feeling happy and a bit smug about having someone who would probably have a harder time. Yet at the same time it was an annoyance. He had to 'babysit' this newborn.
Cold eyes regarded Bree and Jasper decided this test didn't work. Being nice just failed when you were trying to get newborns to co-operate. It just seemed to fail. "Come on, we are going hunting, unless you want some more to come hunting as well." Jasper said coldly, he didn't think that any of the family needed to hunt, and he could manage a newborn, it wouldn't be hard or different compared to what he was used to in the newborn army.
